Turncycle basics

The topic and intent of this site is the novel in progress by author Trevor O’Dell, entitled Turncycle. The novel promises to be a series of three or more books, of epic proportions on the order of Frank Herbert’s Dune series or J.R.R. Tolkien’s middle earth novels.

As you can imagine this requires extensive time and preparation in designing new worlds, new philosophical springboards and all that goes into having a unique setting for a truly unique tale. And unique it is. Few tales can boast the ability to deal with so many complex issues of human (and alien) nature. As the story ensues, there is no way to avoid dealing with the moral and social implications of genetic engineering, xenophobia, racism, militarism, individuality and community, determined ignorance and the true nature of prophecy, as well as issues of technology, human potential, the virtues and evils of human nature, both sides of capitalism, social and political upheaval, revolution and war, the collapse of government, the dangers of anarchy, the power of properly applied pacifism and the processes of both enlightenment and corruption. All this, plus thought-provoking scientific and metaphysical insights, against the backdrop of space travel and the abrasion of vastly differing civilizations.

Though complex, these elements are tightly woven and entirely logical and believable in their places, making a story so powerful and engaging that you should not be surprised that it is expected to one day be transferred to the big screen.

Please note that you may follow the progress of this planning at turncyleprogress.blogspot.com. When book one, Turncycle, is ready for publishing and sale, you will be notified here immediately. Books two and three are to be called Upcycle and The Psych War.

What is Turncycle?

It has been stated that those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Given the inevitable fading of history and its lessons, it would seem that we are all destined to repeat history, over and over in an endless cycle. This is Turncycle—the return to what once was and the beginning of a journey that can never truly be new.
